Tacita Dean - Geography biography - GB

9782373721867
Mainly recognized for her films with a contemplative atmosphere, often shot in sequence, the work of Tacita Dean is a true praise of slowness. Moving away from commentated films since the 1990s, she has since favored discreet soundtracks which further intensify the minimalism of her narrations. Her work has been the subject of retrospectives at the Australian Center for Contemporary Art (Melbourne), Dia: Beacon (New York) and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York). The artist inscribes her atmospheric poetics in the curves of the architecture of the Bourse de Commerce. She will notably present a new work, Geography Biography, of which this artist's book presents an archive. She invents a concave pavilion which fits into the concrete rotunda, an immaterial, almost lunar territory which brings together light and reflections.

Tacita Dean

Description

The film stock of her Super 8 films draws an autobiographical map of her travels around the world which is embedded in the postcards in her collection. The filmic hybridization of these 19th century postcards and the films of its beginnings refilmed in 35 mm brings back to life distant temporalities, the almost surreal fertilization of imagination, of life lived, captured, recorded on film and that which is formed deep within the contemplation of nature and art.
